Fighting escalates in Libya as country braces for coronavirus

“This is likely the beginning of a broader escalation,” said Wolfram Lacher, Libya specialist at the German Institute for International and Strategic Affairs. “Both sides have been arming themselves for the past three months, and thousands of mercenaries have arrived. The coming conflict risks being much more intense than the war had been until now.”

“The attack by GNA was its first truly aggressive offensive since Turkey arrived in Libya three months ago,” said Jalel Harchaoui, Libya analyst at Clingendael Institute, a Dutch think-tank.
